Joeys first club was Witton Albion in 1982 in the old northern premier league as a 17 year old and made ten 1st team appearances before moving to St.Helens town.

At the age of 18 he signed for Everton as a non contract player and was part of the team that won the FA youth cup under Graham Smith before impressing and signing for Preston North End.

After one year at Preston, Joey then signed for Bury FC before returning to St Helens town where he spent 3yrs before signing for Wigan Athletic.

As an avid boxer Joey then decided to then start amatuer boxing and play conference football for Runcorn before returning to Witton Albion and was part of the FA trophy final team. He then played for Altrincham and was part of giant killing exploits in the FA cup.

Joey then turned professional boxer and after fighting at a high level against some of the worlds best heavyweights he retired and returned to football as manager of St.Helens town before becoming a goalkeeping coach at FC United of Manchester & also Stalybridge Celtic.

Joey then got ill with thyroid cancer, which he successfully beat.

He has his UEFA B coaching badge a sports science degree as well as running his own gym in St Helens where is personal trainer and boxing coach.
