For any young goalkeeper (or parent of a goalkeeper) PLEASE take note of the quote below from one of the best goalkeepers to have played the professional game.

Neville Southall played for Everton and Wales and at his peak he was voted the best goalkeeper in the world.

In fact if he was playing today, he would be without doubt one of the best goalkeepers in the premiership.

So for any young goalkeeper and or their parent, read what Nev states about his success as a goalkeeper?

He states, work hard and this is something I believe in because I believe if you want to be better than average, you must be prepared to work harder than the average.

But the most important thing I think nev mentioned was the word fun!

Here is one of the best goalkeepers in the world stating the importance of having fun.

I feel so honoured and privileged to have trained with Nev on a daily basis for 2 years while I was at everton, so I got to see personally how hard Nev worked but with a smile on his face.

I believe this is where a lot of goalkeepers and their parents go wrong… they forget the fun element. This mind you is down to egotistical coaches putting pressure on their team and goalkeepers that take all the fun out of playing in goal for the goalkeeper.

But goalkeepers and their parents need to rise above these coaches who spoil the game because they are more interested in their win, rather than the enjoyment of the game for their young team and goalkeeper (s).

I do not mean to knock coaches as I know they are all not the same but most have not succeeded in football and they sadly live their life through their teams eyes and are that desperate for the win, to make themselves feel and look good, they completely forget about the feelings of their players.

So remember Nevs wise words… yes work hard (VERY HARD) and achieve to be the best that you can be…. BUT DO NOT FORGET TO HAVE FUN.

Because this after all why we play in goal.

Hope Nev Tip helps
