Richard is an Ex England International!

Richard started in goal at an early age, after impressing local scouts he signed schoolboy forms with Stoke City at the age of 14, and was offered a two year apprenticeship a year later. Whilst playing regularly for both the youth team and reserve team at Stoke City he caught the eye of premiership newcomers Derby County and signed a 3 year professional contract in 1998.

In Richard’s first year as a professional at Derby he achieved his boyhood dream of representing his country at both U18 and U20 levels playing alongside the likes of Steven Gerard, Michael Owen and fellow goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

During the 3 years Richard spent at Derby, first team opportunities were limited due to the quality of the two goalkeepers ahead of him, Russell Hoult and Mart Poom. To gain regular first team experience Richard was sent out on loan to various league clubs and had spells with Carlisle Utd, Macclesfield Town, Hull City, Birmingham City and Oxford Utd.

After seeing out his contract at Derby, Richard signed permanently for Oxford Utd in his quest for regular first team football and accumulated over 100 league games winning two player of the year awards and a place in the PFA’s league 1 team of the year, which is an amazing achievement as is it picked by the professional players of league 1.

Richard later moved south to play for Colchester Utd where he finished his professional playing career, he went on to play nearly 400 games at semi-pro level before deciding to call it a day 18 months ago and concentrate on his GK Coaching Company. He has been lucky enough in his career to work with many exceptional Goalkeeping Coaches including; Eric Steele[Man Utd],Ray Clemence(England), Nigel Spinks[Birmingham City], Jim Barron[Northampton Town], Roy Tunks [England,Blackburn Rovers),Pete Riches & Alan Judge[Oxford Utd].

With all his experience in working with these highly respected coaches we believe at J4K that Richard has the knowledge and experience to benefit the Goalkeepers of the future.

Well done Charley Lee!.. Charley has today attended a Training Camp for the England Girls Elite Squad at the University Of Warwick. Charley who attends Goalkeeper Coaching in Derby is a shining example that if you work hard every week you will achieve the goals that you set. As a Coach i’m very proud to have Charley involved in my Sessions at J4K!!..
