James started playing in goal at a very early age, and played for Grimsby Town as a youngster until the age of seventeen. At eighteen he go the opportunity to continue his education at the highly regarded Loughborough University.

Here he continued with his goalkeeping and played for the university team actually scoring form a goal kick to win the quarter final of the British University Championship 1-0.

In his second year at Loughborough he went onto win the British University Championship.

While at Loughborough he spent his summer holidays in New Jersey USA, coaching goalkeeping. In 1999 after leaving Loughborough James went to New Jersey USA to become head Goalkeeper Coach at the Hills Soccer Academy.

In 2000 after returning form the states James set up ‘UK Soccer’ running coaching sessions for children aged from 6-18. Concentrating on his coaching business, James had three seasons without playing but was persuaded to come and play in the Lancashire League were he excelled wining the championship with Old Mancunians and was also picked to represent the league.

James attracted a lot attention from other teams and eventually signed for Brigg Town who play in the Unibond League One making his debut against Scunthorpe United.

James has over 10 Years of experience coaching and in 2006 James was asked to join the coaching staff at Scunthorpe United School of excellence as the head of goalkeeping. James is a UEFA B coach currently undertaking his UEFA B goalkeeper-coaching badge, which he took with David Seaman and Watfords Mart Poom.
