Cech and Valdes

Over the two legs of the CL semi final, recently much maligned, Cech was back to near the form that had him marked as one of the best Goalkeepers in the world before the serious head injury received at Reading.

Valdes was considered a safe GK with the worlds best club side in front of him and rarely troubled. However, the first leg was decided not by a great finish from Drogba but via a poor set by Valdes as he rocked back on his heels and went feet first at Drogba’s shot.

In Camp Nou last night Cech was outstanding not just in his shotstopping and handling but in the Goalkkeeping aura/confidence he gave his team and was back to the ability and mental strength a Goalkeeper needs at the highest level

Ask yourself this – if the teams had swapped Goalkeepers which side would have gone through?
